Terry, Terry gdzie maniery?

Uncle Terry the son of Bob Richardson "the king" of fashion, always push the boundaries and attract the criticism-Terry Richardson, the irreverent New Yorker who changed photography forever.
Some call him a star-maker, and there is no doubt he knows how to push the celebrity into the spotlight. He’s behind some of the most iconic pop culture images of the last few years – Miley crotch-grabbing, Gaga’s meat dress, nude of Miranda Kerr wearing thigh high boots and even the music videos for "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus or "Do What U Want" by Lady Gaga. This and many more are all Richardson’s.
He breaks all the rules, he takes risks, does things others wouldn't.
In the fashion world he is a big deal, working for titles such as Vogue, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, i-D, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair and shooting campaigns for Tom Ford, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Aldo, and Supreme
Terry’s style is very simplistic, normally using traditional methods such as the instant cameras

The sexual nature of Richardson's photography has always been controversial..
Is it porn? Or is it art? Who even really knows anymore? Photographs he has taken of himself having sex with various young girls might be pornographic. Almost every "spicy" picture from his collection you can see in the Deitch show called Kibosh, or Terryworld.

Interview for The Observer, 17 October 2004

"My rule is that I'd never ask anyone to do anything I wouldn't do myself (...) that's how it's got to go this far. At first, I'd just want to do a few nude shots, so I'd take off my clothes, too. I'd even give the camera to the model and get her to shoot me for a while. It's about creating a vibe, getting people relaxed and excited. When that happens, you can do anything." 
"I always say I make pictures rather than take pictures.."
"I don't like to exploit anybody. That's not my bag. Everyone has fun on my shoots."

He continue "..I mean, I don't think I'm a sex addict, if that's what you're asking, but I do have issues, tons of them. Like, this current show could be about my midlife crisis. Or it could be something to do with the fact that since I gave up drinking and taking drugs, I have to get high on sex and being an exhibitionist. Or maybe it's the psychological thing that I was a shy kid, and now I'm this powerful guy with his boner, dominating all these girls.."

Sean O'Hagan ask if it has ever crossed his mind that his stuff' might be better worked out in private. "Why?" he replies, in all seriousness. "I mean, I'm a photographer. I record stuff. Why not record myself? I'm only doing what everybody else does behind closed doors. They take Polaroids of their girlfriends, then they hide them in a drawer, or post them on the internet with her face blacked out. That seems a whole lot less healthy to me. That's about shame and fear. I just do it all, and put it all out there. That's what's incredibly liberating."

"..Look, I'm just a regular guy who's trying to deal with things, and figure stuff out as I go along. If people want to call it porn, that's cool with me. If people are shocked or offended by it, that's even better. A guy came up to me on the street yesterday, and started shouting, "I hate your show. I hate all your fucking pictures."' What did you do? 'I thanked him.'
"..I felt I had to open up my soul and let all this stuff out, and then I could move on. I guess some people are more scared of me now than they were before, because they think I'm a crazy, exhibitionist nut. But the people who know me probably just think, "Oh, that's Terry doing his thing."

Hmm but some think that his work is fashion taken too far.. Well fashion is a kind of universe, where the normal rules of behaviour - social, moral, ethical - do not apply.
Love him or hate him, but obviously is that you already know his name, don't you?
All this bad publicity, the sexualized atmosphere and activity at his photoshoots is just making him even more famous. Now even the people who aren't a fan of his work will shoot with him just to be controversial.

Wujek Terry, syn Boba Richardson jest jednym z królów mody, przekracza granice i przyciąga krytykę - Terry Richardson, lekceważący nowojorczyk , który zmienił fotografię na zawsze.
Niektórzy nazywają go twórcą gwiazd i nie ma wątpliwości, że wie, jak sprawić by gwiazda była w centrum uwagi. Stoi za jednymi z najbardziej kultowych wizerunków pop kultury ostatnich lat - Miley chwytającą swoje krocze, sukienką z mięsa Gagi, nagą Mirandą Kerr w obcisłych, wysokich butach a także produkcją teledysków " Wrecking Ball " Miley Cyrus jak i " Do what you want " Lady Gagi. Charakter seksualny fotografii Richardsona zawsze był kontrowersyjny ..
Czy to porno? Czy to sztuka? Kto to jeszcze wie? Fotografie, które przedstawiają go uprawiającego seks z różnymi młodymi dziewczynami można nazwać pornografią. Prawie każde ostrzejsze zdjęcie, które ujrzało światło dzienne możecie znaleźć w książce Terryworld, czy wystawie Kibosh.

"Moja zasada jest taka, że ​​nigdy nie będę wymagał od kogoś czegoś, co sam bym nie zrobił  (...), to dlatego wszystko zachodzi tak daleko. Chcę zrobić kilka nagich zdjęć, więc ja też zdejmuje ubranie. Nawet daje aparat modelką, by same zrobiły mi parę zdjęć. Chodzi o stworzenie klimatu, aby ludzie poczuli się zrelaksowani i podnieceni. Kontynuuje.. "To znaczy, nie sądzę, że jestem uzależniony od seksu, jeśli o to pytasz, ale mam problemy, i to tony. Jak ta wystawa.. może świadczyć o kryzysie wieku średniego, albo może być to coś związanego z faktem, że od czasu, kiedy zrezygnowałem z picia alkoholu i zażywania narkotyków, muszę się odurzyć seksem i być ekshibicjonistą. A może to sprawa psychologiczna, byłem nieśmiałym dzieciakiem, a teraz jestem potężnym facetem z jego wzwodem, dominującym te wszystkie dziewczyny."

Sean O'Hagan zapytał czy kiedykolwiek przyszło mu do głowy, by jego "sprawy" lepiej  załatwiać w prywatności. "Dlaczego?" odpowiedział z powagą "Jestem fotografem, nagrywam materiały. Dlaczego nie nagrać również siebie? Robię tylko to, co inni za zamkniętymi drzwiami. Robią polaroidem zdjęcia swoich dziewczyn, a potem ukrywają je w szufladzie, lub publikują w Internecie z usuniętą twarzą. To wydaje się dużo mniej zdrowe dla mnie. To z powodu wstydu i strachu. Po prostu robię to wszystko, i pokazuje. To jest niezwykle wyzwalające."

"..Spójrz, jestem tylko zwykłym facetem, który próbuje poradzić sobie z wszystkim, starać się uporządkować tak jak to właśnie robię. Jeśli ludzie chcą to nazywać porno, w porządku. Jeśli ludzie są zszokowani i obrażeni przez to, jeszcze lepiej. Facet podszedł do mnie wczoraj na ulicy i zaczął krzyczeć: "Nienawidzę Twojej wystawy. Nienawidzę wszystkich pieprzonych zdjęć." Co ty zrobiłeś? "Podziękowałem mu." 
"..Czułem, że muszę otworzyć moją duszę, dać wszystkiemu ujście i wtedy będę mógł iść dalej. Myślę, że niektórzy ludzie bardziej boją się mnie teraz, niż to było wcześniej, bo myślą, że jestem szalony, ekshibicjonista dziwak. Ale ludzie, którzy mnie znają pewnie myślą: "Och, to jest Terry robi swoje."

Hmm, ale niektórzy uważają, że moda podjęta w jego pracach zachodzi zbyt daleko, jednak moda to rodzaj wszechświata, gdzie normalne zasady zachowania - społeczne, moralne, etyczne - nie mają zastosowania.

Kochaj go, bądź nienawidź, oczywiste jest jednak, że teraz znasz jego imię, prawda? 
Cała ta zła reklama, seksualna atmosfera i jego aktywna działalność w czasie sesji czyni go jeszcze bardziej sławnym. Teraz nawet ludzie, którzy nie są fanem jego pracy, podejmą się współpracy tylko po to, by po prostu być kontrowersyjnym.

How It All Began

My modeling trips began in Seoul. It was very momentous day for me-I started my very first contract! First editorials, catalogs and campaigns photoshoots which totally forced me into fashion. The funny thing was when my booker was telling me how awesome magazines i booked and i was just like "hmm ok" totally no idea what she was talking about.. I knew Vogue or Elle but... Nylon, S.. ekhm, not really xD
 At first I was just so excited to see what everyone would look like and how they would act like. For the first time i had a chance to wear those extraordinary clothes which we can see in the magazines and i must admit i had chance to worked with pretty damn talented people. During the time when i didnt have jobs or castings i was free to explore Seoul. I was overwhelmed with spectacular architecture and eye catching buildings completely different from everything i saw before. I'm keeping that place in mind for future hoping to go back. Dear Seoul I truly miss you!!!
You know what? I realized that even now I still feel like a stranger in this business. I'm still learning what it’s like to be a model... Not exactly how to be a real model, how to pose or something (i hope im not that bad with it). I mean to be there, in the world of fashion, between the "fashionable people". Sometimes it's totally weird to see how someone grasping at the opportunity to stand out from the pack trying to be noticed. I guess im never gonna understand what the people can do to goes level up.. but hey this is the life I've wanted, right? Everybody know there is a lot of darkness that surrounds this job but thanks God I'm the owner of quite strong head which i mostly use. I love what im doing cause I'm rather surround by positive side of fashion staying far away from the darkness. I’ve grown so much as a person because of it.
Besides all that, I'm really just taking it easy here at home. Im always happy to be back. Life never changed that much here. I always can take a rest being around my family recharge my batteries and... start again.

Moje modelingowe podróże zaczęłam w Seulu. Był to dla mnie historyczny dzień-Rozpoczęłam swój pierwszy kontrakt. Pierwsze edytoriale, katalogi i kampanie które pchnęły mnie w mode. Zabawnie było gdy moja bookerka mówiła mi jak niesamowite magazyny zabukowałam, a ja kwitowałam to zwykłym "ok" totalnie nie mając pojęcia o czym ona mówi. Znałam Vogue czy Elle, ale Nylon, S niezupełnie..
Na początku byłam podekscytowana jak wszyscy będą wyglądać i jak się zachowywać. Po raz pierwszy miałam okazję założyć niezwykłe ubrania, które możemy zobaczyć w magazynach i muszę przyznać miałam szanse pracować z mega utalentowanymi ludźmi. Gdy nie miałam pracy, czy kastingów mogłam pozwiedzać. Byłam przytłoczona spektakularną architekturą i zapierającymi dech w piersiach budynkami tak totalnie innymi od wszystkiego co widziałam wcześniej. Pozostawiam to miejsce w pamięci na przyszłość, mając nadzieję, że jeszcze tam wrócę.
Wiecie co? Zdałam sobie sprawę, że nawet teraz, wciąż czuję się obco w tym biznesie, ucząc się nadal jak to jest być modelką.. Nie mówię tutaj o zwykłym pozowaniu.. (mam nadzieję, że nie jestem w tym taka zła), myślę jednak o byciu w świecie mody, pomiędzy "ludźmi mody". Czasem totalnie dziwnie jest widzieć jak ktoś jest w stanie chwytać każdą okazję by wybić się z tłumu i zostać zauważonym. Zgaduje, że nigdy nie zrozumie, ile ludzie są w stanie poświęcić by wspiąć się szczebel wyżej. Hej, to jest jednak życie które chciałam, prawda? Wszyscy wiedzą, że jest wiele ciemnych stron otaczających tę pracę, ale dzięki Bogu jestem właścicielką dość silnej głowy, którą w większości wiem jak użyć. ;) Kocham to co robię, bo jestem otoczona raczej pozytywnymi stronami mody, trzymając się od tych złych na bezpieczny dystans. Dzięki temu udało mi się wydorośleć.
Będąc w domu biorę wszystko na dystans. Zawsze jestem szczęśliwa gdy wracam, bo życie zwykle się tu nie zmienia. Zawsze mogę odpocząć blisko rodziny, naładować baterie i... zacząć od nowa.
